THE Zambia Football Coaches Association (ZAFCA) has welcomed the appointment of Patrice Beaumelle as new Chipolopolo trainer, saying it will help bring about consistency in the team.

ZAFCA vice-president Lewis Shambulo said in an interview yesterday that there was need for consistency in the team but called on more Zambian coaches to be attached to the team in an event that Beaumelle left.

Shambulo said the normal procedure of picking the next coach should be followed with Zambian coaches encouraged to apply so that the right coach could be picked to drill the Chipolopolo and the same remunerations that were given to the former coach, Herve Renard be given to a local trainer to be picked.

“While we were caught off-guard as the debate was going on, we were told he has been released; but it is good that Patrice remained because that is good for consistency. We, however, hope more local coaches can be attached to the team in an event that Beaumelle also leaves,” he said.

Chipolopolo Soccer Fans Association (CSFA) chairperson Yotam Mwanza wished Renard well during his tenure at French Ligue 1 side, Sochaux saying the Frenchman did the best while he served as Zambia’s coach.

Mwanza said fans were happy that Beaumelle would be in charge of the Chipolopolo but that the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) and Government should quickly meet and discuss the way forward.

He said it would be good to involve as many local coaches as possible and urging that they too, should be given the same allowances and salaries like an expatriate as a way of motivating them to perform even better for the team.

“It is funny how suddenly even people who wanted him to leave are now showering him with praises. As for us, we wish him well and hope he would enjoy the success like he did with Zambia for we shall remain indebted that he won us the Africa Cup of Nations title,” he said.

Mwanza appealed to Renard to help Zambian players break into the European leagues starting with the French Ligue.

Zambia Sports Fans Association (ZASOFA) patron Peter Makembo was of the view that technical director Honour Janza be redeployed to the Chipolopolo coaching bench as he had massive experience in the job.

Makembo said it was high time Zambian coaches were given the opportunity to be in charge of the team and prove what they could make it.
