Indeni 1 Kalewa 0

INDENI at the weekend maintained their lead on the summit of the Division One North league table when they edged Kalewa 1-0 as the battle for promotion into the MTN Premier Division intensified.
In the southern region, promotion chasing Green Eagles at the weekend reclaimed top slot of the FAZ Division-One log on goal difference after beating Livingstone Pirates in Choma on the same day joint leaders Nakambala Leopards won away in Lusaka.
At Indeni in Ndola, this mouthwatering Week 26 derby saw Simon Mwenya score the only goal of the game in the 53rd minute to propel his side to 50 points on the table, two ahead of second-placed National Assembly who beat Mufulira Blackpool with an identical scoreline.
Kansanshi Dynamos, however, suffered a setback in their bid for promotion after they were held to a 1-1 draw at Mumbwa Medics, while Kitwe United brightened their hopes for a top flight finish with a 3-2 win over ‘Mighty’ Mufulira Wanderers.
In the bottom half, Chindwin Sentries suffered a humiliating 1-0 home defeat at the hands of FQM Mining in Kabwe with Chambishi snatching maximum points from Bresmer United by the same scoreline.
The games between Nkwiza and Mansa Health stars and Ndola united against Prison Leopards respectively were not played.
And Green Eagles at the weekend reclaimed top slot of the FAZ Division One South table after hammering Livingstone Pirates in Choma.
After being dislodged from the top for the first time this year in mid-week via more goals scored after tying on goal difference with Nakambala, Eagles were in a no compromising mood, scoring two first half goals through Chansa Katongo in the 15th and 38th minutes respectively to rise to 51 points and a goal difference of 25.
Tigers 0 Nakambala 1
In the capital city, Lusaka Tigers’ impressive run was met with a rude awakening when promotion chasing Nakambala beat them 1-0 at home and equally rise to 51 points but were thrust down into second position on goal difference by Eagles whose goal difference of 25 is one better than the Mazabuka side who are on 24.
And Jim Fikoloma reports from Mazabuka that Jimmy Musonda has started his era at Mazabuka United on a rough note, losing 1-0 to Lusaka Dynamos at the weekend.
The solitary goal courtesy of Jubell Sakala on 75 minutes has waned Musonda’s hopes of putting pen to paper as head coach for the relegation-threatened Mazabuka United.
Musonda took over the reins from Jackson Kafusha who has been slapped with a four match suspension pending dismissal for alleged dismal performance.
In his debut last Wednesday, he lost 2-1 away to Livingstone Pirates before Dynamos snatched a win to leave him with two more trial games to prove that he was the right man to salvage the team from demotion.
Nampundwe 0 City 0
Nampundwe still kept their third position despite drawing at home to City of Lusaka and this was mainly thanks to their closest rivals, Lusaka City Council, whom they dislodged from this position last week after failing to win away and eventually slide to five points off the pace on 46 points.
Kafue 0 LCC 0
Kafue Celtic kept their impressive run going by holding a dangerous LCC to a goalless draw in Kafue to keep the Lusaka side on 45 points, six points off the pace as the leaders break away while Lusaka Dynamos beat Mazabuka United 1-rise to 38 points while Mazabuka United stayed 26 and holding the last safety postion against relegation.
At the other end of the table, Mongu based Luena Buffaloes criss-crossed across the country from Western Province to the Eastern part of Zambia to go and pick up three vital points in Chipata where they beat Panza Chiefs 2-1 to jump to 33 points, while bottom side Mongu Youth Academy drew 1-1 against Paramilitary to move to 14 points as Paramilitary went up to 35 points.
Zambia Army’s Riflemen were 2-0 victors over Kalomo Jetters to rise to 32 points with the losers remaining on 21 points and very much in the relegation zone, while Young Green Eagles continued with their fight against relegation with a 1-0 win over Young Stars to get to 20 points but still second from the bottom, nonetheless impressively now just six points off safety, while Young Stars stay on 28 points and flirting with relegation.
