Govt determined to transform Zambia into a communication hub – Shamenda

Government has restated its determination to transform the country into a communication hub in the southern African region.

Acting Transport, Works, Supply and Communication Minister Fackson Shamenda says government wants Zambia to transform into country that provides reliable and affordable telecommunication solutions in the region.

Speaking last night at the commemoration of hundreds years of Zamtel’s existence in the country, Mr. Shamenda observed that Zamtel can play a significant role in achieving the transformation that government desires to sustain in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

Mr. Shamenda has also made an assurance of government%u2019s unwavering commitment to ensuring its policies are supportive to ICT sector.

Mr. Shamenda, who is also labor Minister, has further stated that government will ensure that an enabling environment is sustained for local enterprises to conduct profitable businesses in the country.

Mr. Shamenda was speaking in a speech read for him by Transport, Works, Supply and Communication Deputy Minister Malama Mwimbu.
Speaking earlier at the same occasion Zamtel Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mupanga Mwanakatwe pledged further hard work and commitment of his company’s employees to continue offering affordable and competitive telecommunication services in the country.
