Fatal Kapiri minibus accident claims five lives

FIVE people, who were returning from a wedding party in Mukonchi area of Kapiri Mposhi District died on the spot, while seven others are nursing serious injuries in hospital after a minibus they had boarded overturned.
The accident, which happened around 19.00 hours on Tuesday, occurred when the driver of the Toyota Hiace minibus registration number ALJ 9734 failed to negotiate a curve due to suspected speeding; the minibus overturned and rolled three times instantly killing five, who included the driver.
Central Province deputy Police chief Edwin Bwanga, who confirmed the accident in an interview in Kabwe yesterday, said the passengers were returning from wedding celebrations in Mukonchi area.
Police were yet to establish if the victims were all related.
At the time of the accident, the conductor was the one who was driving the minibus.
Mr Bwanga said the driver and the conductor were both from Chibombo, while the passengers were believed to be Kabwe residents.
He described the condition of the injured as serious and cautioned motorists, especially drivers, against experimenting when on the road to avoid accidents.
