DEC arrest Lusaka taxi driver for trafficking cocaine

The Drug Enforcement Commission has arrested a Taxi Driver of Lusaka for trafficking in cocaine.

DEC Public relations officer Samuel Silomba says Dingiswayo Chilinda, 38, a Taxi Driver of Chawama Compound in Lusaka, has been arrested for trafficking in one (01) rock and two (02) sachets of cocaine.

Mr Silomba says the suspect who has been on the watch list of the Commission for a long time now was apprehended near Zambia Postal Service Headquarters after a long trail by DEC officers.

And in Eastern Province,the Commission has arrested two (02) businessmen for being in possession of counterfeit notes.

Mr Silomba says George Chisulo Silavwe, 33, a businessman of House Number M27 Kapata Compound has been arrested and jointly charged with Mobby Bubala, 35, of House Number 88 Hollywood in Chipata, for being in possession of K215, 950,000 old currency counterfeit notes which they intended to take to a named Commercial Bank for exchange with the new notes. The duo was also found in possession of US$1000 counterfeit notes.

Meanwhile the Lusaka Magistrate Court has convicted and sentenced an Egyptian national for attempting to illegally export minerals contrary to the Mines and Minerals Act No. 07 of 2008.

Mahmoud Elsayed Mohamed Leila, 36, who was arrested by the Commission at KK International Airport on 17th July 2013, was sentenced to 3 years with hard labour or payment of K50, 000 fine for illegally attempting to export mineral products suspected to be gold.

However, an analysis report from the Ministry of Mines showed that the suspected gold which Mahmoud Elsayed Mohamed Leila claimed to have bought from Chinsali District was in fact Brass which is an alloy of copper and Zinc coated with gold.
