Govt. terminates contract with a local firm in Kabompo

— Parliament heard toady that the ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has terminated a contract for the company engaged to construct Food Reserve Agency (FRA) storage facilities in Kabompo of north western province.

 

This came to light when  Agriculture and Livestock deputy minister Rodgers Mwewa was responding to a question raised by Kabompo west UPND area Member of Parliament (MP) Ambrose Lufuma who wanted to know when the construction of FRA storage facilities abandoned by the contractor will resume.

 

Mr Mwewa told the house that government has taken legal measures against the contractor for abandoning the works despite being paid part payment.

 

However He disclosed to parliament that another contractor has been engaged to complete the abandoned storage facilities.

 

Mr Mwewa further noted that Africa Advance Solutions a company engaged to complete the works will resume construction works in September this year adding that the project will take 12 months to complete.

 

And Chadiza MMD, MP Allan Mbewe quizzed Mr Mwewa to explain to the house why the contractor decided to abandoned the works despite being paid part payment.

 

In response, Mr Mwewa stated that the contractor engaged to construct the storage facilities in question had no capacity hence abandoning the works half way.  

 

He further revealed that a total of 98 storage facilities were abandoned by the contractor in various districts.

 

Meanwhile Parliament heard today that a high school will be constructed in Sesheke district once funds are made available.

 

Education, Science, Vocation Training and Early Education Deputy Minister Davies Mabumba disclosed this in parliament, today.

 

This was when he was responding to a question raised by Sesheke UPND area Member of Parliament (MP) Siyauya Sianga who wanted to know when government will construct a new high school in Sesheke district and whether the state had any plans to construct a high school at kalobolewa.

 

Mr Mabumba disclosed to parliament that in the 2012 ministry of education infrastructure development plan 7 sites were identified were new schools will be put up in the district ounce funds are made available.
