Police arrest two for alleged gang rape in Chipata

–Police in Eastern Province have arrested two men for allegedly having raped a 26-years-old woman while five others are on the run.

 

Facts of the matter are that the victim, on May 9, this year around 22:00 hours in Navutika compound in Chipata, was attacked by seven men on her way back from her work place within the same compound.

 

Zambia Police Public Relations Officer Elizabeth Kanjela told ZANIS in Lusaka today in a press statement that it is believed that the victim was raped by seven men identified as Brown Soko, aged 18, one boy, aged 16, Noah Muwowo, of an unknown age and four other unknown males, leaving her with painful private parts.

 

The two arrested persons are Brown Soko and Weluzani Mwanza while the other five are still on the run.

 

Ms Kanjela said the two have since been charged with rape contrary to Section 132 of the Penal Code of the Laws of Zambia and will appear in court soon.

 

Meanwhile, in Northen Province police have apprehended Emmanuel Mulenga, aged 24, for allegedly having defiled a 12-year-old girl.

 

It is alleged that the victim, on May 13, 2013 around 13:00 hours at Ngoli village in Mungwi district, was left home to look after her siblings by her parents as they had gone to the field. It was then when Mulenga took advantage of the situation and went and took the victim to a nearby bush and defiled her.

 

Ms Kanjela said the suspect has since been apprehended to help with investigations.
