Chirundu man arrested for smuggling Congolese nationals

—–Immigration officers at Chirundu border post have arrested a 50 year old Zambian man for smuggling three Congolese Nationals.

Paul Kawayawaya, a resident of Mazongololo compound in Chirundu, was arrestedtogether with the three Congolese nationals by a combined team of security wings from the Zimbabwean border.

Kawayawaya and the three Congolese nationals, who were arrested on the Zimbawean side, were handed over to the Zambian immigration department on last Wednesday.

Sources at immigration department and Chirundu Police station confirmed the arrest and the detention of Kawayawaya and the Congolese nationals in an interview with ZANIS this morning.

Sources at immigration department said Kawayawaya was arrested for smuggling the foreign nationals who had no travelling documents using a canoe by crossing them on the Zambezi River to the Zimbabwean side at night.

Meanwhile, the source further said Kawayawaya has since been transferred to the Regional Office in Lusaka today together with the three Congolese nationals and   will appeal in court soon

And Former Chirundu councillor, Gift Chanda, who was at the police station to negotiate for the police bond for the accused person which did not work out said, it was very unfortunate that, his friend Kawayawaya and a family man could fall into such a trap and an illegal business so that he could make fast money.
