Mansa hosts HEAZ Annual General Conference

Mansa, Apr 24/13, ZANIS ————- The Home Economics Association of Zambia (HEAZ) yesterday opened its 40th Annual General Conference in Mansa Luapula Province.

Speaking during the official opening, Luapula Province Minister, Benson Kapaya, underscored the role that home economics play in improving children’s livelihoods.

Gen Kapaya said home economics does not only have an impact on the lives of children but also impart skills in children that will give them sustainable livelihood in their homes.

 ZANIS reports that Ge Kapaya said home economics is an important subject whose learners impact positively to the health of families which translates to a healthy nation and has the  potential to develop the country economically.

He noted that home economics has improved over the years going by the number of primary and secondary schools that offer the subject.

The provincial minister commended the association for adopting new technological trends in teaching the subject despite the inadequate teaching facilities.

And speaking earlier, Home Economics Association of Zambia Chairperson, Patricia Mudenda, said the subject of home economics has the potential to fight avoidable illnesses in the country.

Mrs Mudenda said she is happy with what the association has achieved in its 40 years of existence.

She said in the 40 years that the association has been in existence it has achieved, among other things, the appointment of Home Economics teachers to higher levels in the education sector.

Mrs Mudenda said the association is happy that Home Economics is no longer a subject of female teachers alone but also male teachers who have since been trained.

And Eastern Province Chairperson Elizabeth Hara said the practice leant in home economics goes a long in improving the lives of many families.
