Funds released for Lukwesa, Kayemba schools

—Government, through Disaster Management and Mitigation Unity (DMMU) has released over KR137,000 for the renovation of Lukwesa and Kanyemba primary schools in Mwense district.

Mwense District Commissioner (DC) Victor Kasuba disclosed the development in an interview with ZANIS in Mwense today.

Mr Kasuba said the money will be used for renovating the schools whose roofs blew off by heavy rains in October last year.

The DC said K89, 500 has been set aside for the renovation of Lukwesa primary while 47,923 is meant for Kanyemba primary school.

He said the District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) has already identified local contractors to carry out the renovation works, adding works will begin soon.

Mr Kasuba said the renovation works will be completed before schools re-open so that the affected pupils can learn in favourable environment.

The DC has since thanked government for the quick response in addressing the disaster.
