ZRL wagons on the move

Ndola, March 28, 2013 ZANIS………….. Ndola residents have commended the Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) for starting to transport lime from Ndola Lime Company to Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) in Chingola using the goods train.

Speaking in separate interviews with ZANIS in Ndola this morning the residents said the move by ZRL was welcome and that it was a historical move.

Mr Maxwell Mbulu, an employee of ZESCO in Ndola observed that the move by ZRL shows that the company is committed to reviving the rail industry.

“As a resident of Ndola I am very happy to learn that ZRL has started transporting lime from Ndola lime to Chingola using the trains, this industry was dead, this move shows that ZRL is committed to reviving the rail industry, we are very grateful to the PF government this is a historical move,” he said.

Another resident Naomi Chibale of Ndeke Township said other companies should emulate ZRL and promote the use of trains so that road traffic accidents are reduced on highways.

“All these companies that transport various goods they should start using trains for that business, this will ensure that accidents on the roads are reduced, otherwise ZRL has scored a first we as Ndola residents are very happy about this move, this is what happens when you give companies to Zambians to run.

The first locomotive pulling16 wagons containing lime arrived in Chingola at Nchanga Mine Limited plant last Friday after a break of some years.

ZRL is expected to be transporting an average of 10, 000 metric tones of lime per month from Ndola to Chingola.
