The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has requested the police to maintain law and order in the forth-coming Lukulu west constituency parliamentary by-elections slated for April 23, 2013.

ECZ  Official Judge Christopher Mushabati says all the political parties in the constituency should avoid engaging in illegal activities such as grabbing of voters cards and national registration cards (NRCs) from voters to avoid breaching the electoral code of conduct.

Judge Mushabati made the call when he addressed different political players from the Patriotic Front (PF), Alliance for Development and Democracy (ADD), UNIP, UPND, and MMD in a meeting held in Lukulu council chamber today.

He said candidates and their party agents should get prepared for this week’s nominations that will be held on Thursday March 28, 2013, at Mitete in Lukulu west constituency.

Judge Mushabati said nomination times of between 09:00 hours to 15:00 hours should be strictly adhered to as any candidate coming after the stipulated ECZ time will not be allowed to file the nomination papers.

ECZ commissioner Dr. Fred Ng’andu, Deputy Director in-charge of voter education Josephine Mubita and other ECZ members accompanied him.

UPND Member of Parliament for Zambezi west constituency Charles Kakoma and Lukulu west constituency UPND campaign manager Charles Kakoma attended the meeting while the ruling PF was represented by its candidate, Eileen Imbwae.

And Mr. Kakoma has pledged that his party will follow the laid down procedures as indicated in the electoral code of conduct.
