———- Mulungushi University Vice Chancellor, Hellicy Ng’ambi, has refuted reports that she has threatened to close the institution by August this year if none of the buildings under construction are completed.

Ms Ng’ambi said she has no mandate to close the university because it is not her personal institution as it falls under the Ministry of Education.

“I am only an employee and I have no mandate to close this institution,” she said.

She said the ministry of education and the Ministry of Finance are working on addressing the challenge in line with the government’s emphasis on education and infrastructural development.

Ms Ng’ambi said on Saturday that the institution was facing challenges in accommodating students and the lack of lecture room and library due to insufficient infrastructure.

This was when Works and Supply deputy Minister, Malama Mwimba, visited the institution to check on the construction works of some buildings going on at the university.

Mr Mwimba, however, assured the vice chancellor that government will look into the issues affecting the university.
