—The Western Water and Sewerage Company (WWSC) has commenced a KR1.6 million water construction project expected to cater for 14 thousand people in Mandanga area of Mongu district in Western province.

Western Province Permanent Secretary, Emmanuel Mwamba, toured the project site and said direct access to water and sanitation is critical in eradicating diseases such as dysentery and diarrhoea in the province.

Mr Mwamba explained that it is in this vein that water and sanitation programmes in the province have been put under his office for personal supervision.

Mr Mwamba tasked Best Brand Construction Engineering Company to complete the project in the stipulated time frame of six months.

The PS, however, expressed worry at the measures put in place to safeguard the boreholes from water contamination as the project is within a settlement area.

And WWSC Managing Director, Justin Liywali, said the project, which is being funded from the Devolution Fund under NWASCO, will be completed by October, 2013.
