Erratic water supply worries Kapata residents
Chipata, February 25, ZANIS ——- Residents of Kapata area of Chipata district have complained over erratic water supply despite the increase in water tariffs by Eastern Water and Supply Corporation by 20 percent.
One of the residents Berther Tembo of Kapata Township complained that the area has had no water for two days and that residents are now going into day three without the commodity.
And another resident Samuel Nyirongo said the shortage of water in some parts of the district has become unnecessary and it is a challenge to the disabled people to ferry water from distant places to their homes.
“Most Kapata residents are drawing water from St Anne’s Parish Catholic Church which is more than one kilometer from their homes,” said Mr Nyirongo
Meanwhile Eastern Water and Sewerage Company Public Relations Officer Kashoki Henry Nsofwa said the company is doing everything possible to ratify the problem.
Mr Nsofwa said the main pipe which supplies the commodity to the area burst due to high pressure near Kapata market.
And commenting on the tariff increase Mr Nsofwa said the tariffs have been increased after the company met the condition by National Water Supply and Sanitation Company (NWASCO) and that the customers were informed on the development and did agree on the matter.
Recently Eastern Water and sewerage increased its water and sewerage tariffs by 20 percent.
And a check at the site by ZANIS found workers from Eastern Water and Sewerage Company working on the problem and the workers who were found at the sight assured the residents that supply will be restored later during the day.
