—Labour and Social Security Deputy Minister, Rayford Mbulu has given a three week ultimatum to Fine Steel Manufacturing Company Limited of Kabwe in which it should provide ideal sanitary conditions, safety measures and equipment for the workers or else face government’s wrath.

Mr Mbulu said this when he took a surprise visit on some companies in Kabwe’s mine area which included San He (Zambia) Limited and ZALCO Recycling Company Limited yesterday.

The Deputy Labour Minister gave this order after he discovered that the company apparently failed to provide ideal sanitary conditions, safety measures and equipment for its workers at the plant.

Mr Mbulu gave the ultimatum yesterday when he toured the company where he found workers going about their duties without proper safety gear while their toilets and bathrooms are in a deplorable state.

He said government would not accept such conditions to prevail in companies because they become a risk to workers thereby endangering their lives.

The irate minister said government wants to pragmatically create a conducive and sustainable environment for as many investors as possible however it should also be investors’ prime responsibility to adhere to the country’s Labour Laws.

Other companies Mr Mbulu toured included San He (Zambia) Limited and ZALCO
Recycling Company Limited where he found acceptable conditions.
