The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has disclosed that it has submitted a request to the Ministry of Finance for funds to start printing the new road traffic offences tickets.

Speaking to ZANIS in an interview today, RTSA Principal Traffic Officer Yoram Phiri said the ticketing system will be implemented once the tickets are printed. Mr Phiri explained that the tickets will only be issued to road traffic offenders who commit non impoundable offences while those with impoundable offences will still be impounded on the spot.

The ticketing system is a method where traffic officers will stop collecting fines from erring motorists but instead issue them with tickets. The system is meant to reduce the levels of corruption among road traffic officers by avoiding the situation where offenders pay money directly to the officers. RTSA is also considering a system where the offences can be paid for at banks and avoid contact with officers.
