ZAMBIA Air Force officer major Mwendalubi Hamane, who last month slapped a woman rapturing her eardrum and dislocated her neck, yesterday appeared in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court and pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault.

It is alleged that on July 30 this year in Lusaka, Hamane, 38, assaulted Naomi Tembo and occasioned her actual bodily harm.

Taking plea before principal resident magistrate David Simusamba, Hamane, who is being represented by lawyer, Kombe Kampamba, denied the charge.

Magistrate Simusamba set September 5 for commencement of trial.

According to the interview, which Tembo gave after she was assaulted, Hamane beat her while in the company of her husband after she gestured to the officer to reduce his car beam lights.

She had said Hamane allegedly slapped her so hard and she lost her consciousness right away before falling into the drainage.

Tembo was rushed to ZAF clinic and only woke up in the treatment room later.
She felt blood coming out from her ear and she could not feel anything on her left side.
Trial on September 5.
