Zambia’s rising HIV infections among adolescents concerns UN

United Nations Resident Coordinator, Janet Rogan has expressed concern over the rising number of HIV positive adolescents in the Country.

Ms. Rogan says this shows that a lot of young people are engaging in unprotected sex which in turn is contributing to early pregnancies, marriages and school dropout.
She notes that HIV remains a social problem that calls for concerted efforts from all stakeholders to fight.
Ms. Rogan says the fight against HIV should be intensified if the 90- 90-90 target is to be achieved by 2020.

The 90-90-90 is a joint United Nations programme on HIV/AIDS which aims at diagnosing 90 percent of all HIV positive persons, provide Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) for 90 percent those diagnosed, and achieve viral suppression for 90 percent of those treated by 2020.
Ms. Rogan is however, happy that the Zambian government has made strides towards the fight against the pandemic.
