Zambia’s Athletics icon Samuel Matete is calling for more investment at the grass root as a way of promoting sport in the country.
The former 400 meters hurdles World Champion noted that Zambia has not produced a world champion in the sport because of not attaching importance to grassroots athletics.
Matete who is also the 1996 Olympics Silver medalist said it was unfortunate that currently administrators were investing in fun races like Inter Company relay at the expense of promoting athletics in schools and clubs.
Matete was speaking on Radio Icengelo’s Insaka Programme this morning.
