Minister of Health, Chitalu Chilufya has confirmed that a number of chlorine bottles produced by Bimbe Company have been recalled from the market due to failure to meet required standards.

Dr. Chilufya says 1 ,880 of the 250 millilitre bottles and 910 cases of 750 millilitre bottles of chlorine have been recalled from the market.

He has told journalists that the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority has declared the chlorine to be sub-standard and that more inspections will be conducted on other companies producing the substance.

Dr. Chilufya has further said the Ministry will work with Bimbe Company to ensure that it produces quality chlorine henceforth.

He has stressed that Government will not allow its citizens to be exposed to sub-standard goods.

Meanwhile, Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya says the ministry will continue taking the multi-sectoral approach to ensure that cholera is contained.

Dr. Chilufya says the government has managed to stabilise the epidemic in the Cholera epi-centres through the various interventions.

And the Minister of Health says a total of 1407 inmates at Lusaka Central Prison have been vaccinated against Cholera in the first dosage of the exercise.

Dr Chilufya says the inmates are expected to be vaccinated in the next two weeks for the second round.

He says this is to ensure that the inmates are not left out the measures that have been put in place to reduce the spread of the Cholera.
