A 34-year-old man has died while six others sustained serious injuries in a fatal accident when the vehicle they were travelling in overturned along the old Lusaka road in Shimabala –Lukolongo area.
Kafue Acting District Commissioner, Joseph Kamana, confirmed the accident which happened yesterday to ZANIS in Kafue.
Mr Kamana said the accident occurred when the Toyota Land cruiser registration number ABD 7426, driven by 31-year- old George Chele of Shantumbu, who was coming from Lusaka heading south hit into a bridge pillar and overturned.
He named the deceased as Hamilton Musukwa.
The Acting District Commissioner added that the body of the late Musukwa is at Kafue District Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem and burial while the six other victims are admitted to the district hospital.
Mr Kamana has bemoaned the loss of a life in the accident and attributed the cause of the accident to over speeding.
He has called on motorists in the district to observe the Zambian road traffic regulations to avoid further loss of lives.
The Acting District Commissioner further urged the Road Traffic Agency to help reduce accidents by intensifying patrols and operations in the district.
Meanwhile, Kafue District Medical Officer, Chiza Simpungwe, confirmed that the hospital received one brought in dead and six other accidents victims.
Dr Simpungwe said one of the victims sustained multiple injuries and has since been referred to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka for further medication.
He described the condition of the five other victims admitted at the district hospital as stable.
