Serenje District Electoral Officer Pamela Zulu says the delay in totalling of results of Thursday’s general elections for Muchinga and Serenje Central constituencies in central province has been caused by transport challenges.

By 22:00hrs last night, results for 26 out of 41 polling stations had not been taken to the totalling centre.

Mrs Zulu said transport challenges to ferry poll staff and materials to the totalling centre have resulted in delays to have all the results at the centre.

She said most of the polling stations in the district are very far from the totalling centre and vehicles ferrying both staff and materials to the totalling centre were not enough.

The District Electoral Officer also said most Electoral Commission of Zambia drivers doing errands were new in the district and had difficulties locating the polling sites.

However, she expressed hope that totalling of results from the 26 remaining polling stations will be completed today and winners will be declared in the afternoon.

She further expressed happiness with the orderly and peaceful environment prevailing at the totalling centre.
