Six die in Mazabuka – Lusaka road accident

Six people including two juveniles died on the spot after the Freight Liner truck registration No. ALE 7884, trailer no. ALL 9029T driven by Godwin Chitaulo 44 years of Lusaka’s SOS area careered off the road and overturned on the Mazabuka-Lusaka road.

Police Spokesperson Rea Hamoonga says accident which happened yesterday around 17:48 hours near Shine farm was due to excessive speed.

He says seven other people sustained injuries and are admitted to Mazabuka General Hospital while the bodies of the deceased are lying in the same hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem and identification.

And in a related development a female adult only identified as Hope died on the spot in an accident which happened yesterday around 19:50 hours along Chilumbulu road near the Military Staff College in Lusaka while nine others sustained injuries.

Mr Hamoonga says the accident happened when the driver of a Toyota Hiace mini bus Registration No. ALJ 5558 on which the deceased was lost control of the vehicle and in the process collided with an oncoming Toyota Land cruiser Registration No. BAA 155.

He says the body of the deceased is lying in UTH Mortuary awaiting full identification and postmortem.

Meanwhile Police have arrested seven people from International Ministries Fellowship Affiliated Churches (IMFAC) for falsely obtaining money, National registration cards and Voters cards from different people purporting to be money lenders.

Mr Hamoonga says it is alleged that the same organisation has been recruiting members from the Community with a view of giving them loans upon paying a certain amount of money which amounted to K4, 950=00.

He says this has been going on from an unknown date in February to 3rd August, 2016.
