A 16-YEAR-OLD boy of Kabanda village in Kawambwa has died while a 20-year-old man was wounded in the chest after they were accidentally shot with a shotgun during Senior Chief Mushota’s installation ceremony.

Julius Chama, 46, of Buyaka village accidentally discharged a greener shotgun during the installation ceremony of Senior Chief Mushota of Kawambwa district, instantly killing Victor Mwelwa and wounding George Kalaba.

Luapula Province commissioner of police Hudson Namachila said in an interview yesterday that the incident happened on Tuesday around 11:30 hours at Mushota Primary School.
“The installation ceremony of the chief is characterised by gunshots. But as Senior Chief Mushota was being installed on Tuesday, the one who was tasked to fire the gunshot mishandled the firearm and ended up shooting two people,” Mr Namachila said.
