A 30-YEAR-OLD MAN caused laughter in a Lusaka Local Court when he said that he refuses to provide food for his family because his wife denies him conjugal rights.
Shepard Chulu of Jack compound was testifying in a case in which his wife, Chomba Kapaso, 25, sued him for reconciliation.
The two got married in 2007 and have five children.
Kapaso told Senior Court Magistrate Lewis Mumba sitting with Magistrate Pauline Newa at Matero Local Court that all was well until 2012 when Chulu brought home his girlfriend whom he introduced to her and children as his cousin.
She explained that one of her neighbours told her that they found Chulu fondling the woman he had introduced to her as his cousin.

Kapaso explained that when she asked Chulu’s relatives about his ‘cousin’ they denied her as being a family member.
Kapaso further said that she even prepared food for the woman thinking she was truly Chulu’s relative not knowing she was his prostitute.
“Since the girlfriend came into our home Chulu stopped providing for the family and treated me like his enemy. I have to look for food myself because Chulu spends money on his girlfriend,” said Kapaso.

In defence, Chulu admitted not providing food for his family because Kapaso denied him sex.
He explained that he decided to give money to his girlfriend whom he introduced to Kapaso as his cousin because that was where he got his sexual relief.

He told the court that a wife was supposed to sleep with her husband anytime but that was not the case in his house.
Chulu further said that he loved Kapaso and that he was willing to reconcile with her but insisted that she should see marriage counsellors to teach her how to look after a man.
Magistrate Mumba reconciled the couple and advised them to seek advice from marriage counsellors.
