Police arrest traffic Officer who killed a 3 year old in Misenshi

Police have arrested the Traffic Police Officer who ran over and killed a three year old child in Misenshi and charged him with causing death by dangerous driving.

The mother to the Girl also sustained a fractured right leg and suspected internal injuries.

Copperbelt Police Chief Joyce Kasosa says the police on the Copperbelt will not defend the officer involved and the law will take its course .

Mrs. Kasosa named the officer as Constable Pethius Chanda .

She named the dead girl as Mapalo Wandila and the mother is named as Sarah Wandila .

Mrs. Kasosa told ZNBC news in Ndola that Constable Chanda who is detained will appear in court soon for causing the death of Mapalo.

The Copperbelt Police Chief says police should always lead by example and religiously follow the law as is expected of them.

Scores of Misenshi residents yesterday ran amok and burnt a Toyota NOAH belonging to Constable Chanda who is said to have been on a drinking spree before the accident.

The condition of Mrs. Wandila who is admitted to Kitwe Central Hospital is said to be stable though her leg may be amputated .

Meanwhile, government has offered to meet all the funeral and medical expenses to lighten the burden being faced by the Wandila family.
