Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) Northern Province Chairman Mr Noah Mulenga has told Lunte Member of Parliament Felix Mutati to go back to the party he supported during the January 2015 presidential election, the United Party for National Development (UPND).

Reacting to the brewing controversy surrounding Mr Mutati who is alleged to be going around the country saying he shall contest for the MMD Presidency at the next convention, Mr Mulenga said Mr Mutati has no chance in hell of defeating Dr Mumba in any electoral contest.

“We are very disappointed with Mr Mutati. He has enjoyed being an MP under MMD and been paid a lot of money as a parliamentarian. At the first opportunity he got, he went and made a deal with HH and campaigned for him. He was expelled from MMD and then given a second chance. Now he is bringing confusion in MMD. We won’t tolerate this.”

“I speak on behalf of Northern Province when I say that there is no way we shall allow Mutati to hijack the MMD presidency from Dr Mumba who has defended the party from the PF the last 4 years. All this time Mutati has been sitting doing nothing and he thinks he can get the presidency without paying the price. He must be joking,” said Mr Mulenga.

Mr Mulenga said that Dr Mumba won the MMD presidency in 2012 fair and square but some of the other candidates he defeated such as Felix Mutati, Kapembwa Simbao and Situmbeko Musokotwane did not even attend his inauguration ceremony at Mulungushi Conference Centre.

“Instead of supporting and defending MMD the mother of democracy in Zambia, some of these MMD leaders are busy supporting undemocratic parties like PF and UPND where one man makes all the decisions and appoints people in the party anyhow. Some of these party presidents haven’t been to a convention for ten years,” said Mr Mulenga.

Mr Mulenga also sounded a warning to any other MMD leaders who may want to rebel against the leadership of Dr Mumba that they would not be tolerated and they would be removed from the party because time for indiscipline was over and it was time to work hard for the 2016 elections.
