TWO people have been apprehended in connection with the killing of three Chinese in Kitwe last week, Home Affairs Minister Davies Mwila has said.

This brings the number of those arrested to three.
Mr Mwila said police had since heightened investigations into the matter to ensure that every person living in Zambia, regardless of origin, was safe.
The three Chinese were members of the same family.
They were murdered in Kitwe’s Garneton area last week by criminals who broke into Golden King Investments factory and had access to their residence, where they stole an undisclosed amount of money from the safe.

Three other Chinese were injured during the incident.
Mr Mwila disclosed the arrest of the two suspects in an interview in Lusaka yesterday.
“Two people have so far been apprehended in connection with the killing of the Chinese in Kitwe and police are doing everything possible to ensure that the culprits are brought to book.
“Let me also take this opportunity to assure our foreign compatriots that they are safe living in Zambia because this is a country that has only known peace from time immemorial,” he said.
Mr Mwila said the Government had recruited 1,500 people into the police service to increase the number of officers keeping vigil countrywide.
“The pass out parade for the new officers will take place in the next three months and this will contribute greatly to a reduction in cases of crime and enhance public safety,” he said.
