THE Women International Boxing Association (WIBA) has ranked Zambian female pugilist Catherine Phiri 12th in the bantamweight category.
According to WIBA website, International Boxing Federation (IBF) champion Carolina Rodriguez of Mexico is ranked first, followed by compatriot Jessica Gonzalez.
Gonzalez is World Boxing Council (WBC) bantam weight champion.
Catherine’ s opponent in next month’s WBC title fight Yazmin Rivas of Mexico and Irma Garcia are third and fourth respectively while Christina McMahon of Ireland is fifth.
Janeth Perez, another Mexican is sixth while Mayerlin Rivas of Venezuela is trailing in seventh position.
Spanish Melenia Sorroche is eighth with Celina Salazar of the United States of America perched ninth while Mayar Alenjandra Gomez of Argentina is 10th.
Galina Koleva Ivanova of Bulgaria is 11th followed by Catherine.
Another Zambian, Lina Kasweka, is ranked 38th in the bantam weight category while Lolita Muzeya, also of Zambia, is number seven in the welterweight category.
This is according to the latest rankings released on Tuesday.
WIBA states that rankings are based on, among other things; the fighter ’s record, experience, talent, potential, activity and how they match up against one another in their respective divisions.
