THE Copperbelt University (CBU) School of Medicine currently under construction in Ndola, will encompass a medical museum which will store human body parts for tutorials.

The school, which is being built at a cost of K36 million, is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
CBU acting vice-chancellor Shadreck Chama informed Minister of Education, Science, Vocational Training and Early Education, Michael Kaingu, when he toured the facility being constructed by a Chinese firm Sogecoa Zambia Limited.

“In the medical museum, this is where they will keep things like bones, they will get human parts like the brain, apply chemicals and store them in here. And when we talk about the liver, we can come here,” Dr Chama explained.
And the minister asked where the university will source human body parts for tutorial purposes.

“There are some people who actually donate, but it is very difficult in Africa,” Dr Chama said.
And Dr Kaingu was happy with the construction works so far done at the School of Medicine, noting that the facility will have modern equipment.
“We need this facility to come in play as soon as possible. What is important to note, is that it is actually is a modern school and I’m sure our medical students will be very happy when they come here. On behalf of the ministry, I would like to thank the President and the government for providing the resources to build this school,” he said.

The construction of the school is expected to be completed by November and handed over to Government in December.

  1. Not human spares, but human parts for educational purposes. It is not right to call them spares as if they will be reused.
