Zambia coach George Lwandamina has explained his decision to drop TP Mazembe forward Given Singuluma for next month’s 2017 Africa Cup qualifier away against Kenya.

Singuluma is conspicuously missing from the 13-member list of foreign-based call-ups summoned for the September 6 clash in Nairobi.

The Mazembe striker has not disappointed for Zambia since ending his three-year Chipolopolo exile last August 31 after scoring three goals to date.

“If he (Singuluma) is not there (on the list) we just want to give him a break,” Lwandamina said.

“Sometimes it is not that players are not called because they are not doing fine, he has been playing football for some time.

“Sometimes we give people a break so that when they come, they will come with a lot of vigour.”

Singuluma is also one of Zambia’s only two players who managed to find the target at the 2015 Africa Cup in Equatorial Guinea where Chipolopolo made a group stage exit with two points.

He has been dropped together with striker Emmanuel Mayuka who is currently in transition following his release by English club Southampton in the summer.

Meanwhile, three Mazembe players summoned for away game against Kenya are midfielder Nathan Sinkala, Zambia captain Rainford Kalaba and defender Kabaso Chongo.
