PF retains Bangweulu seat

The ruling Patriot Front party (PF) has retained the Bangweulu Paliamentary seat in Samfya District in the just ended parliamentary by-election.

PF candidate Anthony Kasandwe polled 9,516 votes while his closet rival Robby Mwansa from the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) polled 1,862 votes.

In third position was Blanco Muma from the United Party for National Development (UPND) who got 1,122 votes while the fourth position was scooped by Independent candidate Prudence Chinama who got 653 votes.

In fifth position was John Kabila from the Christian Democratic Party (CDP) who polled 432 votes and the last position was National Restoration Party (NAREP) came last after polling 336 votes.

Bangweulu Constituency returning officer Liften Ndaba declared Mr Kasandwe winner and duly elected Member of Parliament for Bangweulu constituency.

Bangweulu Constituency has a total of 41,958 registered voters and 51 polling stations.

Out of 41,958 registered voters only 14,120 people participated in the just ended parliamentary by-election and a total of 199 ballot papers were rejected.

And newly elected MP for Bangweulu constituency Anthony Kasandwe has thanked the electorates for voting for him.

Mr Kasandwe said he was happy that he had won and the PF had retained the seat.

He said he will work hard and execute developmental plans he has for the people in the area in accordance with the PF manifesto.

The seat was declared vacant following the death of area MP Chifita Matafwali.
