Winston Kalengo scored a vital away goal as Zambia went down 2 – 1 to Namibia in the first leg of the preliminary round of the qualifying match for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) played in Windhoek on Sunday.

The burly Zesco United striker opened the scoring in the 15th minute but his strike was not enough as it was cancelled ten minutes after the break by Willie Stafanus before Benjamin Nenkavu scored the winner for the hosts in the 64th minute.

Coach George Lwandamina will be encouraged by the away goal knowing that Zambia can progress with a 1-0 result in the second leg scheduled for July 4.

Lwandamina’s men should be extra motivated because, last month, Namibia eliminated Zambia from the Cosafa Cup 5 – 4 on post-match penalties following a goalless draw in regulation time at the quarter-finals stage.
The winner of this tie will face the winner of the tie between Mozambique and Seychelles in the first round.
