Government says it will not accept any more excuses from the national soccer team.

Sports deputy minister Ronald Chitotela has therefore directed national team coach Honour Janza to ensure that the Chipolopolo Boys qualify to the 2017 African Cup of Nations.

Chitotela says the Chipolopolo have no excuse not to qualify for the 2017 AfCON finals.

He says government has always spent huge sums of money on the team despite poor results of late, that saw the national team fail to defend the COSAFA Cup.

Chitotela has urged Janza’s charges to pull up their socks as the qualifiers for the 2017 AfCON kick off next weekend.

The deputy minister said this when he paid a surprise visit to the team during the morning training session at Heroes stadium in Lusaka this morning.

And Janza thanked the deputy minister for the visit, saying players will be motivate to perform better.

He said almost all the foreign-based players summoned have reported except for a few, like Stoppila Sunzu, Rainford Kalaba, among others.

The team is expected to leave for Addis Ababa tomorrow, ahead of this weekend’s friendly against Ethiopia.

The 2012 AfCON champions will fly direct to Ndola after the Ethiopia friendly to await the first game of the 2017 AfCON qualifiers against Guinea Bissau on June 13, 2015.
