ZANACO OPEN THREE POINT LEAD AT THE TOP

A goal each from Moses Phiri and Aubrey Funga earned MTN FAZ Super League leaders Zanaco three important points as they beat city rivals Red Arrows 2-0 in a rescheduled week ten match at Sunset Stadium on Wednesday.

 

With closest rivals and champions Zesco United who have 20 points dropping points following their 2 -1 loss to Nkwazi at Mwanawasa Stadium, Zanaco have opened a seven point lead at the top with 27 points.

 

This was the first time Zesco United have been defeated in the current campaign meaning that Zanaco are the only side to be undefeated.

At Sunset Stadium it was Moses Phiri, restored to the starting line up following his involvement with the Zambia U23 national team, who opened the scoring on 43 minutes for the league leaders to take a 1 – 0 at the break.

 

Aubrey Funga made it 2 – 0 to the hosts in the 56th minute, the goal which was Zanaco’s 19th in the current season.

At Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Nkwazi stunned Zesco United with a 2 – 1 win following goals from Lottie Nyimbili and Chipungu Musukuma to move third on the standings with 19 points, a point adrift of Zesco United in second.
