Zambia squares off with Malawi in Cosafa Plate final

Zambia will square off with Malawi for pride in the final of Cosafa plate at the Royal Bafokeng stadium, in Rustenburg this evening.

The two countries will fight for redemption after being knocked out of the elite Cosafa cup quarter-finals by this year finalists Mozambique and Namibia respectively.

 

Chipolopolo as the Zambian team is affectionally known went into this tournament as the defending champions after they have won the cup in their home soil in 2013, but were dismantle by a formidable Nambian side in the penalty shoot.

Honour Janza’s men will want to end their disastrous Cosafa cup campaign by claiming the plate final as a consolation and they will be without their influential vice captain Nathan Sinkala who was excused to go back home and attend family matters.

 

Malawi go into this encounter after their victory over hosts South Africa in the semi-final and are also looking to redeem themselves after bowing out in the quarter-finals of the elite Cosafa cup against Mozambique.

Bloemfontein Celtic’s Limbakani Mzava will be a player the Zambians have to watch with caution after his good display against South Africa and Mozambique, while strikers Bornwell Mwape and Aaron Katebe proved to be a good attacking force for the Zambians after scoring crucial goals that downed Ghana out of the plate semifinals.

 

Namibia will battle it out with Mozambique for the elite Cosafa cup trophy on Saturday at the Moruleng stadium to close curtains on Cosafa tournament. The winner will take away with prize money of R500 000 and runners up with R250 000.

Kickoff for today’s game is at 17.00
