Government is to recruit two thousand health staff to improve the nurse patient ratio in the country.
Community Development, Mother and Child Health Minister, Emerine Kabanshi disclosed that the country has 13,147 health staff.
Ms. Kabanshi also said government is committed to improving the well being of health staff and ensuring the provision of quality health services across the country.
The Minister said this in Lusaka during celebrations to mark Nurses day.
Ms. Kabanshi said government will continue to take affordable and quality health care services closer to the people.
And Zambia Union of Nurses Organisation- ZUNO Vice President for Professional Affairs, Perpetual Kalombwe said nurses have been overstretched due to low staffing levels.
