FORMER Zambia soccer team striker, Dudley Fichite has asked the Lusaka Magistrate Court to adjourn his case to enable him engage a lawyer.
Fichite, 36, who is charged with sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl, is alleged to have committed the offence in December last year in Kamwala South.
Facts are that the girl went for a holiday at his residence and while there, on a date unknown, Fichite, who is a Staff Sergeant, went home drunk and defiled the girl at night but the she never reported the matter to her aunt, Mrs Fichite.
When the matter came up for commencement of trial before Lusaka Magistrate Betty Malupenga yesterday, Fichite, who at the last sitting was unrepresented, applied to have the matter adjourned to enable him to hire a lawyer to represent him.
Ms Malupenga granted the application and adjourned the case to May 14, 2015 for commencement of trial.
Fichite is on a K10, 000 bail in his own recognisance and was further ordered to present to the court two sureties working in the Government.
