The United Party for National Development (UPND) has urged all workers to boycott this year’s Labour Day commemorations in protest against the wage freeze and deliver the message to Government that change is needed.

UPND Chairperson for Labour Percy Chanda in a statement says by boycotting this year’s Labour Day celebrations, workers will be sending a very strong message that they are not happy about the wage freeze, employment freeze and the continued reversal of positions pertaining to the retirement age.

Mr Chanda says workers and those who are struggling to find jobs deserve serious answers from Government.

He says the UPND is committed to strengthening the labour laws to protect the Zambian worker from exploitation.

Mr Chanda states that the UPND Government will drive the Tripartite Consultative Council forward by ensuring it becomes a cornerstone for good industrial relations, boosting the economy and GDP, and helping break away from careless borrowing.
