The four survivors of the Mazabuka road accident admitted at University Teaching Hospital-UTH- are in a stable condition.

UTH Public Relations Officer Natalie Mashikolo says the patients will be discharged as soon as they finish treatment.

Meanwhile at least 5 people have died and 13 seriously injured after a light truck they were on was hit by a train at Chikoswe rail crossing in Kafue last night.

Police Spokesperson, Charity Chanda says the accident happened when a driver of a Hino truck registration number AKB 1527 which was carrying 19 passengers failed to give way at the rail crossing.

Ms. Chanda says the driver of the truck is on the run.

She also says a suspected thief was brutally beaten at the incident scene by members of the public when he attempted to steal from the victims.

And Kafue District Commissioner Grace Ngulube who visited the accident scene urged drivers to be cautious on road.

Meanwhile, Government has conveyed deep-felt condolences to the bereaved families of the 17 people who died in a tragic road traffic accident in Mazabuka in the early hours of yesterday.

And Acting Chief government spokesperson Joseph Kasonde says losing a huge number of lives in a single road accident is shocking and a great loss to the country.

Dr. Katema says Zambians should remember the families of the deceased in prayer during this period of extreme pain.

He has also wished the injured a quick recovery. Dr. Katema said this in a statement made available to ZNBC News in Lusaka.
