About 211 million Kwacha has been spent on by-elections which were nullified due to corruption and defections since 2011.

Deputy Minister in the Office of the Vice President Stephen Kampyongo says nine by-elections were held in constituencies where seats were nullified due to corrupt practices.

The other nine were nullified due to defections.

Mr Kampyongo says 183 local government elections were also held.

He says government budgeted for the by-election through annual allocations.

Mr Kampyongo says the government had to follow the law regarding elections.

He was a answering a question from Mkaika MMD Member of Parliament Peter Phiri who asked for the number of parliamentary seats nullified from October 2011 to December 2014.

Meanwhile, Former Energy Regulations Board Chief Executive Officer Bulet Butler Sitali has asked the court to declare as illegal the seizer of his car by the Anti Corruption Commission.

Mr. Sitali says the decision should be declared illegal because the ACC did not have a warrant when seizing his car as required by law.

He says it is wrong for the respondent to keep his CAR without presenting it before the courts of law as evidence.

This is according to an affidavit in support of the summons for leave to apply for Judicial review.
