ZAWA nabs four poachers in Kaoma


Kaoma, March 20th, ZANIS —-  Alert Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) officers have arrested and charged four suspected poachers in Kafue National Park yesterday.

ZAWA prosecutions Officer based in Kaoma district of Western province, Evanse Mushimbalume confirmed the incident  in an interview with ZANIS today.

 

Mr. Mushimbalume  has  identified the quartet as Milton Ndala 36, Chingangu Nyundu 35, Lubinda Ndombwe 32, and Mwangala Maliti 19, all of Kaposhi area TBZ of Nkeyema district.

He  said the quartet were found with two kilogrammes of dried common duiker game meat, one home shotgun, eight twelve bore shotgun ammunitions, two bicycles, four axes and two knives.

Mr Mushimbalume said the rampant poaching is currently depleting different animal species in Kafue National park and has appealed to the members of the public to desist from poaching as ZAWA officers will not relent in effecting arrests on would-be offenders.

He said that the quartet is currently remanded in Kaoma police custody waiting to appear in court for plea soon.

The poachers have since been charged for three counts namely unlawful entry in the Kafue National park, conveying weapons into the national park and unlawful possession of government trophy without authority.
