Mobile NRC registration to start in April

GOVERNMENT will next month commence the national mobile registration exercise that will gobble K25 million.
Home Affairs Minister, Davis Mwila told Parliament that the 2015 to 2016 national mobile registration exercise for the department of National Registration, Passport and Citizenship would commence in the second week of April.
Mr Mwila said in a ministerial statement yesterday that the exercise would be done in three phases with a projection of 1,075,000 people expected to be issued with national registration cards (NRCs) by the end of the exercise.
“These exercises are expected to take 90 days per phase for all the 10 provinces,” Mr Mwila said.
He said phase one would be conducted from April to June this year in Northern, Muchinga and Central provinces, while phase two would be conducted from July to September in Lusaka, Southern, Western and Eastern provinces.
Phase three would take place from October to December 2015 on the Copperbelt, Luapula and North-Western provinces.

“At the end of phase three of the exercise, an evaluation of the whole process will be undertaken in order to revisit some areas which may not have been adequately covered and to improve on future exercises,” he said.
He appealed to all stakeholders including parliamentarians, traditional leadership, and civic leaders to present eligible and genuine Zambian national for acquisition and replacement of NRCs.
He also appealed to the stakeholders and the Parliamentarians to ensure that they sensitise the people in their constituencies to encourage the eligible people to acquire the NRCs.
Mr Mwila told the House that the exercise would be conducted in polling stations and the officers would operate at each polling station for a week to enable as many people as possible acquire the NRCs.
