Ngimbu directs NWP Councils to reserve land for youths
Solwezi, March 12, 2015, ZANIS—Lands, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Minister Christabel Ngimbu has directed all Councils in the North-Western province to reserve adequate land for youth development purposes.
Mrs Ngimbu said government would appreciate if all developmental plans in the region could include recreation parks and youth skills development centres in community settlements.
Mrs Ngimbu said this in Solwezi today when she officiated at this year’s Youth Day cerebrations whose theme is, “The Youth: Building a stable and sustainable future”.
She said government will continue placing youth development and empowerment at the centre of its programmes because it recognizes that youths are among the most vulnerable members of society.
Mrs Ngimbu said government will continue putting measures in place to empower youths to acquire knowledge and skills through skills development initiatives in various tertiary institutions, youth training centres under the Ministries of Youth and Sport, Community Development, Mother and Child Health and Zambia National Service (ZNS) among others.
She said government has already shown its commitment to the welfare of youths by empowering 103 youth groups and individuals in the province through youth empowerment funds which has resulted in creation of more than 230 jobs.
Speaking at the same occasion, Provincial Permanent Secretary, Amos Malupenga appealed to government to increase the number of youth empowerment fund beneficiaries so that more jobs for youths could be created in the province.
A youths representative, Bruno Mwape appealed to the government to renovate Solwezi stadium so that youths could be participating in various sporting activities and discover and develop their talents for their stable and sustainable future.
