2)–Six people injured in road mishap

–SIX people among them a juvenile are
battling for their lives with serious injuries in Namwala District
Hospital, after a Canter truck they were travelling in hit into a
tree.

Southern Province Assistant Police Commissioner Kashif
Mphande confirmed the development to ZANIS in Choma today.

Mr, Mpande said the driver lost control of the vehicle after failing
to negotiate a curve due to excessive speed.

He explained that the truck careered off the road and hit into
a tree sending the passengers sprawling on the ground due to the
impact.

The accident happened on Monday around 20:30 hours along the Choma-Namwala road.

Sydney Simweemba, 33, of Kasenga area in Namwala, was driver of the
truck registration number ALH 8269 and sustained serious injuries as a
result of the accident.

Police say Simweemba  is suffering  from chest pains with a fractured leg.

The juvenile, Sanora Nalikwando, 7, of Kaleya Township in Mazabuka
sustained an injury in his left leg.

Police named the other passengers as Chilombwe Hamusankwa, 28, who sustained a deep
cut on his face, Rose Mangoza, 45, of Monze who has chest pains while
Mutinta Hachombe, a resident of Gwembe sustained a deep cut on the
face.

Police have since charged Mr Simweemba with dangerous driving.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Police Commissioner has also disclosed that a
cyclist and pedestrian of  Monze were left with multiple injuries
after being hit by a Toyota Corolla registration
number ABV 4204 driven by Ignatius Mudenda, 28, of Manungu Township.

Mr Mphande stated the  cyclist, Esmore Chizyuka, 41 of Showground
Township who suffered a fractured left leg and a deep cut on his forehead,
is admitted to Monze Mission Hospital.

Mr. Mpande added that Chileleko Mweetwa, 13, a pedestrian from Railway
Township, sustained a swollen right arm with general body pains while
the vehicle’s wind-screen was completely shattered.

The driver of  the Toyota Corolla  has since been arrested for
dangerous driving.
