A civic leader in Shang’ombo district of Western province has defected from his party to the ruling Patriotic Front (PF).

Simu Ward Councillor Dominic Shomeno in Sinjembela constituency defected from the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) to the PF because of President Lungu’s spirit of togetherness.

Mr. Shomeno said in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka that he has decided to join the ruling party because of the exemplary spirit of unity exhibited by President Edgar Lungu and the people in the PF.

He said President Lungu has clearly shown that he is a President for all Zambians by appointing Nalolo Member of Parliament Inonge Wina as Vice President as well as appointing former Deputy Minister of
Information and Broadcasting Services Poniso Njeulu as Western Province Minister.

Mr. Shomeno further said he has joined PF because Shang’ombo has received massive development projects under the PF leadership.

He cited the completion of Shang’ombo district hospital, a magistrate court and a post office in Shang’ombo as some of the developmental projects in the area.

He said other developmental projects include the upgrading of Shango’mbo Primary School to a Secondary School, upgrading of community schools to fully fledged primary schools and the construction of a community radio station.

Mr. Shomeno further said Shang’ombo has also benefited from the PF government through the construction of the Shango’mbo-Rivungu Canal, the social cash transfer scheme and loans to some community schools under the Zambia Open Community Schools (ZOCS) programme.

He said it was also because of the PF developmental agenda that he has decided to join the party.

He has since urged well-meaning Zambians to support President Edgar Lungu.
