——Government, through the Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health and other cooperating partners, has allocated a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser motor vehicle and 100 bicycles to the Department of Social Welfare in Luangwa District in an effort to improve the implementation of the Social Cash Transfer programme.

Luangwa District Social Welfare Officer, Collins Chavuta, revealed to the District Commissioner, Eunie Mumba when he went to present the vehicle and the bicycles at his office over the weekend.

Mr Chavuta said the Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health with other cooperating partners, such as the Irish AID and the Finish Government, have allocated a brand new 4 X 4 Toyota Land Cruiser to his officer and 100 bicycles to be distributed to all Community Welfare Assistance Committees (CWACs) to ease the implementation of the Social Cash Transfer programme in the area.

He said the allocation of the transport to his office and CWACs has come at the right time when the committee members and his office have to register more clients and also monitor how the already-recruited beneficiaries were appreciating the programme.

Mr Chavuta said so far more than 2000 households were benefiting from the Social Cash Transfer with the majority being women and the aged who are looking after orphans.

And Luangwa District Commissioner, Eunie Mumba, has called on the Department of Social Welfare to use the vehicle for the intended purpose.

Mr Mumba said government attaches great importance to improving the livelihood of the most vulnerable in society hence introducing programmes such as the Social Cash Transfer.

He called on all government departments in the district to implement government programmes diligently so that people can feel and benefit of the programmes being put in place to improve their lives.
