Government to diversify rural economy

Mazabuka, February 18, ZANIS—Government has pledged to work hard and diversify the rural economy in order to enhance local entrepreneurships.

Minister of Commerce Trade and Industry Margaret Mwanakatwe said government wants to change the face of business in rural areas.

Mrs. Mwanakatwe said her ministry has therefore positioned statutory bodies such as the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) and the Citizens Economic Empowerment
Commission (CEEC) to support industrialisation in districts.

She said this when she paid a courtesy call on Mazabuka District Commissioner Eugene Munyama today.

And Mazabuka District Commissioner Eugene Munyama said residents in the district were facing difficulties in accessing finances from Commercial banks and the CEEC.

Mr. Munyama said CEEC loan applications have been pending for a very long time without any official from CEEC attending to them.

Mr. Munyama said the people in the district were however happy that government has introduced a village banking initiative under the Ministry of Community Development Mother and Child Health.
