Catholic Church donates items worth K3600 in Mongu

Mongu 17th February 2015-ZANIS—The Catholic Church has donated assorted items worth K3, 600 to Lewanika General Hospital and Mongu Central Prisons.

The donation came as part of showing love for vulnerable people on Valentine’s day which fell on Saturday February 14.

The church gave food staff worthy 600 Kwacha to Lewanika General Hospital while Mongu Prisons received goods amounting to 3,000 kwacha.

Speaking on behalf of the other church members Joseph Nyambe who is also Secretary for Lady of Lourdes Cathedral said the church was committed to helping the community on such a date and he added that the aspect of it goes beyond religious fundamentalism and embraces everyone.

Mr. Nyambe noted that the church has for many years been assisting various societies spiritually and materially.

And Gilbert Mundia  who was a beneficially  at the hospital thanked the church for the gesture and asked the church to maintain the same spirit saying the  it should not only be preaching peace but also consider the interests of poor people.

Mr. Mundia stated that whilst on earth Jesus took the welfare of subjugated persons to heart by providing them with both spiritual and material needs.

Meanwhile, Monde Milupi a female aged 51 who was nursing her husband said the donation was a clear testimony of how the church views downtrodden people.
